Claude was born in South Africa in 1939 and raced from 1965 to 1984 with enormous success. When he sold out in 1985 (on emigrating to North America) his sale broke all existing South African records. He started racing in Toronto, Canada in 1989 and won his first race. He raced first in the Toronto Federation and from 1997 in the Up North Combine. In 1998 Claude sent his first bird to a futurity race - the San Diego Triple Crown. This bird - “San Diego Queen” won the first race (100 miles) by 7 minutes, winning over $47,000 (a San Diego record).

That started an incredible run of American and International futurity wins (click here for details). Since 1964 Claude has visited the champion lofts of Belgium and selected young birds out of their best. He has been ruthless in his selection. If any bird - irrespective of cost or pedigree -  does not breed good ones in the first two years, it is disposed of. (That is something very important to remember when you are bidding on some of the five, six and seven year old breeders in this sale.)

The birds in this sale are Claude’s breeders. Forty one of the  birds in this sale are direct imports from Belgium and Holland from the lofts of Gaby Vandenabeele, Silvere Toye, Rik Cools, Stefan Steenbergen, Wout Spierings (source of Ganus’ Creator family), Jos and Jules Engels, Jan Kloeck, Chris Hebberecht and Luc Coppenolle. Also included are birds of the late Frans Putterei family.

This truly is an auction you do not want to miss.

• The auction and the on-line bidding process is described at www.choicepigeon.com. Remember that if you are going to do on-line bidding you will have to register in advance with ChoicePigeon (Select “Register” on the menu bar at the top of the site). The on-line auction started on February 20th and will end on March 4th at the Fort Sutter RPC Clubhouse when the gavel falls.
• Opening bid is $300. However, since the on-line bidding began on February 20th, the opening bid at the live auction may be higher if on-line bids have been placed.
• The pedigrees are available from the www.choicepigeon.com site:
